I used to be a skipping master. When I was younger, I honed my skills by skipping classes in high school. I just didn’t want to do it at the time – it wasn’t fun, it didn’t feel productive; I could do it in my sleep and often did, but I didn’t know or care why I should. So I skipped it as often as I could. It started in eighth grade, when I skipped a single class by reading in a restroom while the Principal searched around town for me, and peaked in the eleventh grade. I skipped about 85% of the eleventh grade, and spent a lot of time either hiding out and playing video games or causing trouble.
These days, I only skip things which are not important, and that is how I game my life. I get a lot of things done while building up a list of things that I would like to get done. They won’t do themselves, but that neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

(Update) Yes.
note: this is an update to my previous post. If you have not yet read it, you might want to do so. So I just did some reading up on civil liberties, and it seems that they are indeed being infringed by the intelligence community … Continue reading (Update) Yes.
Are our civil liberties really under attack?
Some 80’s auditory goodness: In case you hadn’t heard. . . It seems as though a huge scandal rocked the news yesterday as it was revealed that the NSA and the FBI are utilizing laws passed by Congress in 2007 and 2008 to rifle through … Continue reading Are our civil liberties really under attack?
Crapola
Recently I found this trail on one of my long Saturday runs; it is on the Northeast side of town and is just perfect for running.
I almost have it figured out to where I can probably get to this trail and back home in about an hour, but I have to hit it again when I have the chance. Will that be today? I don’t know. . . the verdict is still out on that one because a technician from Siemens is supposed to be in today to repair the machine I am supposed to be cutting parts on at work. If that happens my 8-hour day instantly becomes a 10-hour day, and possibly will stay that way for the foreseeable future, which will put a stop to my weekday running altogether. That’s more than just a little depressing.
My only option then is to start running at 4:30 in the morning, when I get up. The problem with that – that’s usually when I am doing other stuff. So I really need to rearrange my schedule if I don’t want to be pushed right back out of my running like I was last year. Maybe I should just kiss that marathon goodbye. Again.
Here’s the icing for this cake: I forgot my banana so I don’t get to eat today.
I won Flash Fiction Friday!
Great news everyone: my Friday post “Little One” won Flash Fiction Friday at The One-Minute Writer! As a reward I got posted on their site, which gets more eyes on the Surf Report. Bonus!

How to Declare Your Independence
Today’s prompt at The One-Minute Writer is about holidays: Which is your favorite holiday, and what do you love about it? My favorite holiday has got to be the 4th of July. It’s not about eating, it’s not about giving gifts, and it’s not tied … Continue reading How to Declare Your Independence
Accentuating the positive
This is a response to today’s prompt at The One-minute Writer – Do you have an accent? First of all, let me just say that I can not write for just one minute unless I am playing Scattergories. I get like two sentences down. And … Continue reading Accentuating the positive
My Wiseacre Coffee Maker
So: how smart does a coffee maker have to be, I wonder? My coffee maker is a pretty cool gadget, if I do say so myself. It’s a Hamilton Beach Brewstation, which doesn’t use a carafe, but instead makes the coffee into a tank, and … Continue reading My Wiseacre Coffee Maker
Dock day
This is one of those days. I declared that I was on a two-week beercation on Wednesday but today came up as the day we were going to help my father in-law put the dock in the river, which is never easy but seems to … Continue reading Dock day
The nobility of self-sacrifice
Today’s writing prompt at oneminutewriter.blogspot.com is to talk about what is noble to me. I gave it some good thought, but all I could really come up with was helium, xenon, argon, radon, et cetera; I then turned to the dictionary – because I am … Continue reading The nobility of self-sacrifice
