A more inexpensive 3D printer is on the way

Tomorrow at 11am Eastern Time, Pirate3D is launching their Kickstarter to bring a $350 3D printer to market!! Are there enough exclamation points for this? From what i have gathered, they have had some made already, they’re just need to capitalize the big production run, and a $250 level donation gets you a printer! Get out there and start making things!!

Writing about anything

I have been posting here pretty much every day for about two weeks now, and it feels like the more I write, the more ideas I get for writing. Is this how it works then? Because if so, I’m glad I didn’t follow my first instinct – I almost threw in the towel on the blog. In fact I almost deleted the whole thing altogether.

I mean, who wants to live with knowing that they started something and never finished it, not for any legitimate reason, but because they let other stuff get in the way? Some things take precedence of course, but playing Guild Wars for hours on the weekend? Trolling Facebook for no clear reason? Listening to podcasts while pretending to organize the basement? Please. So I started looking for ways to steal time, because I’m pretty sure nobody will notice it missing, but I can sure try to get people to notice my writing if it magically appears on a regular basis. That’s what I’m about now – building a daily “write anything” practice. Post once, good. More than once? Great! But just post something, and show the world that you have what it takes to be a writer, a blogger, because you can’t write the occasional big stuff if you don’t build up chops – the ways and means to write little stuff daily. Do it Rob, you can do it!!

Needless to say, I didn’t delete and in fact am pushing forward. I will be slow and relentless, Sisyphus pushing the stone. This is how anything gets done: one step at a time. One post at a time.

Parade Magazine interview with Stephen King

I just finished reading this article in the physical Parade magazine in the Sunday paper:

http://www.parade.com/15671/kentucker/summers-best-books-starring-stephen-king/

This is why I still respect and admire Stephen King so much: he’s still writing, still doing what he loves, and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him “as long as the checks don’t bounce”. He’s passed on his values to his children successfully, and both of his sons are published authors. Dedicated writer, family man, strong literary values – that’s what I want for myself. It’s a good interview; I’ve always been sucked in by the way King talks, and there’s some bonus material at the link.

Music, The universal Language

I enjoyed the following brief blog post and video by JamesRevelsTheComposer. It reminded me of myself, though I wanted to be a musician long before I considered being a linguist. It just goes to show that music and language have much in common.  –Rob

Site construction FYI

I am currently doing some intense work on the feel and purpose of Rob’s Surf Report. In the near future, we should see more surf-related information and pages hit the site, while my blog posts will still probably focus mainly on whatever I feel like writing.

‘’Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier……..’’. How ‘tweeter’ Emma Way has ruined her life.

I’m thinking that this girl should probably be jailed and psychologically evaluated for her apathy. This is why people who ride bikes have to ride like motorists are trying to kill them – and we’re not even the ones who are clogging the roads with … Continue reading ‘’Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier……..’’.
